Problems with Mobile Learning and How They Can Be Overcome

Mobile learning has been described as being an e-learning extension. It offers people with an opportunity to learn throughout their lifetime. Mobile learning has been described by many to be interesting and exciting. It has made training an easy activity for many organizations. No rooms are needed in order to train people. There are no classes when it comes to mobile learning. People can learn and at the same time be connected to their homes or work places. They can carry out their day to day activities. Training has become easy with gadgets like tablets and smart phones. The gadgets have great features, which makes learning enjoyable.

However, mobile learning has its challenges or difficulties. The first common challenge is the cost. It is said that it is an expensive mode of learning. Not many people can afford the mobile device because of how expensive it is. Many schools have no infrastructure for supporting mobile learning. Effort is needed in order for the use of mobile phone for purposes of learning to work. Teachers as well as students need to be consistent or persistent. Reformatting of material for purposes of learning has to be done.

The issue of materials that are being provided being entertained rather than educational has been raised. Mobile app companies are advised to try to find a balance between engaging and fun in order to deal with distraction. They should always ensure that users learn something from the materials provided.  Apart from being exciting, the apps should be instructional. They should aim at ensuring that it is very educational. The other challenge is relevance. It has been noted that lots of contents are irrelevant and generalized. Effort should be made in order to ensure that the apps offer what students ought to know.

There are also challenges when it comes to adopting mobile learning. The main challenge is mobility. Individuals don't interact with teachers. It creates a different kind of learning environment that people are not used to. The issue of insecurity is a concern that has also been raised by many. There is no supervision hence learners can join groups that are negative. The issue of acceptance and the readiness to use mobile learning by students as well as teachers has also been raised. There have been reported cases where students and teachers are unwilling to use this new technology.

The content has to be presented in such a way that it is exciting. This makes the students to be interested and prevents them from going astray from the information that they need in the learning process. It is therefore, important that mobile learning apps should be customized to enable users to create content for their own learning. It should target students and avoid things that are unnecessary for students.   Some gadgets storage facilities are limited. Many files cannot be saved and in order to increase the space for storage; one has to spend a lot.

Also, operating systems are numerous and choosing one that fits all the needs of an individual is challenging. Sometimes usage of mobile learning can be tricky for people to use. Mobile learning has its benefits but there are times that it can be limiting.  It is important that people should embrace the use of mobile learning in order for it to work. People should embrace the changes in the world of technology and the challenges that come with this technology will be dealt with. Revolution is a need in order for mobile learning to work. Challenges in mobile learning will always be there but how we deal with them is what we should pay attention to.
