ITIL

Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard Co. are some of the most reputable companies that include ITIL in their best practices framework. According to an article on govtech.com by Chad Vander Veen, ITIL has also gained popularity in the US.

ITIL is structured into books defined by their corresponding functions:

  • Service Design
  • Managerial
  • Service Strategy
  • Service Transition
  • Continual Service Improvement
  • Service Operation

Apart from these books, which may be bought online, there are ITIL products and services such as training, qualifications, user groups and software tools.

ITIL certification is classified into three consecutive levels; Foundation, Intermediate and finally Expert.

People with this certification have successfully completed the necessary work and examinations, and proved their mastery of ITIL and suitability in this carrier. However, it is a bit challenging to meet all the requirements of this certification since it involves proper planning, a lot of dedication, regular study and full understanding of the entire course.

A hand on experience in the field is also necessary. Generally, ITIL course has three basic goals: improving IT services, making IT services more cost-effective and developing IT services according to business needs and customer preferences.

It involves completing an hour-long examination with multiple choices on ITIL and how it can be implemented. The test contains a set of 40 questions, and one must answer at least 26 questions correctly to get the lowest passing score of 65%.

Intermediate Certification:

Each module consists of several subtopics as well as accompanying certificates that one can earn and a greater number shows more in-depth skills and knowledge.

All the examinations take 90 minutes and have 8 difficult questions with multiple choices. The certification requires ones to pass at least one examination with the lowest score of 70%. Work experience of 2 years is also required.

Expert Certification:
The highest ITIL certification level is expert, which depends on the lowest number of twenty two credits that one obtains in the first two certification levels.

Two credits must originate from the foundation level, while the remaining twenty must originate from different certificates found in the intermediate level; in which some are mandatory, while some are elective. This is a special certification because there is no examination involved.
