Actifio Reveals Survey Findings from VMware Users Group

Survey identifies top barriers to data protection deployments in today’s IT data centers

Actifio on Wednesday announced the results of a survey completed at the VMware Users Group (VMUG) on January 20th, 2011 at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts. The survey was comprised of over 900 IT respondents highlighting the barriers to adopting a comprehensive data protection environment. The industry survey asked data center managers and decision makers at large and medium organizations to rank disaster protection priorities for 2011, based on importance. Key findings from respondents included the following:

  • 82% of respondents indicated that the complexity of procuring and managing multiple data protection tools was the number one obstacle to deploying a comprehensive data protection environment
  • 69% revealed that the total cost of ownership of purchasing and managing multiple point products was another top concern to implementing a robust disaster recovery plan
  • 43% of those surveyed highlighted network bandwidth costs as the third barrier to implementing an end-to-end disaster recovery plan

Today's data center is mired with multiple legacy data protection tools that can't keep up with data demands and invites risk at every step. The challenges of managing multiple copies of data across these point tools for backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, analytics and compliance result in an additional 13 to 120 copies of production data stored within the IT infrastructure. This duplication of effort costs 3 to 5 times more than managing the production data itself. The issue is further intensified by the inability to manage data within available business windows - leaving organizations vulnerable to data and productivity loss and increased risk.

Actifio has applied virtualization technologies to data management and transforms individual silos of point tools into a single solution managing the lifecycle of data - providing organizations the freedom to use any application, any server, on any storage device, on premise or in the cloud. Actifio delivers a solution with zero backup windows, instant restore, long-term backup, disaster recovery and business continuity and is independent of the application, operating system, server storage, or network technologies. With integrated global deduplication, compression, network optimization and storage virtualization, Actifio is setting a new industry benchmark for ease of use, reduced storage footprint, network utilization and up to 90% lowered TCO.

"The survey confirms the pain administrators face every day in managing the complexity, cost and risk of multiple islands of data protection tools that strain IT resources and stretch network bandwidth performance," said Ash Ashutosh, CEO of Actifio. "Our customers have found a better way to address the dilemma of managing layers of resources and processes to stay ahead of the problem. Instead, they are solving the issue by virtualizing data protection to consolidate disparate disaster recovery applications into a single, fluid data protection environment across the data lifecycle."
